How to Review Interior Finish Samples Before Approval

Review samples in the room and lighting where the finish will be installed.

Start with your home and household

Place samples beside each other with floor, wall and countertop materials. View them in daylight and evening light, then record approved product names and codes. Add the relevant measurements and product requirements to the room brief, then compare the proposed layout at full scale before ordering.

A common mistake to avoid

Screens and small chips may distort color or texture. Approve physical samples and retain a reference. Confirm the final choice against the actual site, the manufacturer's guidance and the people who will use the room.

Before you finalize

  • Measure the room and note fixed services, openings and clear walking routes.
  • Compare material samples and written specifications, not just names or images.
  • Record the agreed scope, budget, installation details and maintenance needs.
